Jacobabad base has been vacated for long time ago, but Shamsi is still with them."

"They are vacating it," the official insisted. "Shamsi base was for logistic purpose. They also used it for drones for some time but no drones have been flown from there."

Haqqani Commander Killed in Afghanistan

The senior commander in the AL Qaeda-Linked Haqqani had been killed in an air strike on leading Kabul Hotel in this week. It was not possible to confirm Jan’s death or position independently and ISAF provided no immediate details on how they knew he had been killed. The International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) identified Ismail Jan as deputy to the senior Haqqani commander inside Afghanistan and said he was killed in the eastern province of Paktya on Wednesday.

Security forces tracked his location based on intelligence reports from Afghan government officials, citizens and “disenfranchised insurgents” before calling in the air strike, ISAF said in a statement.

The US-led force accused Jan of providing material support for Tuesday’s attack on the Intercontinental in the Afghan capital, frequented by Westerners and Afghan government officials.

The strike comes two days after a senior US military officer said that Pakistani leaders show no sign they are ready to crack down on Haqqani militants operating from sanctuaries near the Afghan border, despite repeated US requests.

Heavily armed militants stormed the hilltop hotel late Tuesday, sparking a ferocious battle involving Afghan commandos and a NATO helicopter gunship that left at least 21 dead including the nine attackers.

The Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack, but NATO said it was carried out in conjunction with the Haqqani network, blamed for previous attacks in Kabul and considered the most potent US enemy in the east.

NATO said Jan and “several” other Haqqani fighters were killed the following day in Paktya, which borders Pakistan’s tribal belt where the Haqqani leadership is based in the semi-autonomous district of North Waziristan.

Bullet Train 300 KM/h

BEIJING (AP) -- Builders of China's fast-growing bullet train network conducted a test run of its showcase Beijing-to-Shanghai line Monday amid controversy over the prestige project's high cost.

A train carrying government official, managers of the companies that built the line and reporters left Beijing for the 1,318-kilometer (824-mile) trip. It was due to take about five hours, or half the time of conventional rail.

The communist government is building thousands of miles (kilometers) of high-speed rail to link together China's far-flung regions and show off its rising wealth and technological prowess.

The multibillion-dollar plan has provoked complaints that it is too expensive for a country where millions of people still live in poverty. The government announced in April the top speed of the fastest lines would be reduced from 350 kph (220 mph) to 300 kph (190 mph) and ticket prices would be cut.

Official plans call for the network to expand to 8,000 miles (13,000 kilometers) of track this year and 10,000 miles (16,000 kilometers) by 2020.

China's trains are based on Japanese, French and German technology but its manufacturers are trying to sell to Latin America and the Middle East. That has prompted complaints Beijing is violating the spirit of licenses with foreign providers by reselling technology that was meant to be used only inChina.

Monday's test run comes ahead of celebrations of the 90th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party on July 1.

In a statement, the Ministry of Railways said it made extensive preparations for safety and security. They include plans for daily inspections of tracks and other facilities and an earthquake monitoring system.

The Beijing-Shanghai line crosses seven provinces that include some of China's most densely populated and economically developed areas.

The railway ministry says the line will run 63 pairs of trains a day at 300 kph (190 mph) and 27 at 250 kph (155 mph). Ticket prices range from 1,750 yuan ($269) for a business class seat on the fastest train to 410 yuan ($63) for second-class on slower trains.

Afghan Refugees Cheering After the Death of Osama

Afghan refugees had cheering after the death of Al-Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden.

Mr Mirza khan 45 year old Afghan refugee live in Peshawar for past 20 years , he said that “We are jubilant over the news that … Osama Bin Laden has been killed, because he was solely responsible for the destruction of Afghanistan,”

“We had a very good house and business in Kabul,” he said, cursing al-Qaeda and Taliban for the woes of millions of Afghans.

There are 5 million or afghan refugees in Pakistan during there homeland during of war. Near about three million on them have since returned, but 2 million remain in Pakistan for fear of insecurity back home

Bin Laden, once revered in the Islamic world, had lost his popularity as his followers attacked schools, mosques and funerals, killing thousands of innocent people, including women and children. Those who hated him were numerous and eager to speak out.

“This morning I woke up to very sudden news about the killing of Osama. We never expected that this man (Osama) would ever die,” said Zalmay Janan, a grade-9 student at Mirwais Public School for Afghans on Nasir Bagh Road Peshawar. He appeared hopeful that Osama’s death would speed the end of the insurgency in war-battered Afghanistan.

“I hate Osama because he created a force that opposed female education. He was not the leader of the Muslims but he led terrorists instead,” said Gul Makai, who teaches English at Aryana School in Tehkal locality in Peshawar. She handed out sweets to students to celebrate this morning, she said. She knows at least 200 children who live in Pakistan solely so they can study, she said.

Irfan Javid, 20, said he was living alone in Peshawar to complete his education. “My parents live in Kunar Province of Afghanistan, where the Taliban have vast influence and hence the schools cannot function properly,” he said. “My parents come every month to meet with me and give me money for my expenses here.”

In the Board Market in Peshawar, which is called “mini-Kabul,” shopkeepers exchanged pleasantries and congratulated each other on what they called a great success.

“We are providing child labour to the automobile workshops, hotels and other small outlets in Pakistan,” rickshaw driver Noor Wali said. “Thousands of Afghan children have been working for a paltry amount under Pakistanis. It is all because of a man called Bin Laden.” A former resident of Paktika Province, he said he fled to Pakistan after a suicide attack killed his parents three years ago.

“Had Bin Laden not arrived in Kabul, my parents would have been alive and I would have been in college now,” Wali, 21, said.

Bin Laden’s death will do much to establish peace in Afghanistan and Pakistan, prominent Afghan doctor Alif Gul told Central Asia Online. “The different jihadist groups for which Osama was the cement will fall apart like a house of cards now,” he predicted.

By and large, Osama was the architect of terrorism in Pakistan and Afghanistan, he said. Almighty Allah has answered the prayers of millions of peace-loving Muslims in the form of Bin Laden’s death, he said.

Using my pen as a sword - Dr A Q Khan

Dr A Q Khan
We all know how previous military and civilian governments used dirty tactics to throttle an independent media. Sometimes they succeeded by using sheer brute force and sometimes through bribery and blackmail. On the whole, the media managed to survive and came out cleaner and stronger after every scuffle. The recent attack by the so-called democratic government on Geo Super is a dark chapter in the history of the PPP government. They did manage to deprive the public of sports and entertainment for some time and to cause a loss of hundreds of millions of rupees to the organisation. They were apparently under the impression that they could bring Mir Shakil-ur-Rahman to his knees, totally forgetting that similar tactics had failed in the past to subdue his father, that giant of a journalist, Mir Khalil-ur-Rahman. There is an adage that an apple does not fall far from the tree—in this case, the son is a reflection of his father. I had once written in my column that both Mir Khalil-ur-Rahman and Mir Shakil-ur-Rahman were like tall, straight, strong pillars; they could only be broken but not bent. I am personally aware of the efforts made by the government to gain Mir Sahib’s support in Dubai for their illegal and corrupt activities. When that failed they turned to dirty tactics. Thanks to public pressure and the intervention of the Supreme Court, Geo Super is now back. One would think that the rulers would learn from their setbacks, but nothing seems to bother them. Let us now discuss the dire need for a peaceful revolution. I have emphasised this need in some previous columns, giving the examples of revolutions in France, Russia, China and Iran. The leaders of those revolutions were

Jeddah Mega Stadium

JEDDAH: Work on the new 100,000-seat mega stadium in Jeddah will start shortly after Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah ordered it should be built near the city’s King Abdulaziz International Airport.

“The king wants to establish the proposed stadium in a place close to Jeddah and near the airport, as well as to expand Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal Stadium in the city,” said Prince Nawaf bin Faisal, head of the Youth Welfare Presidency.

Speaking to reporters after the final match between Al-Ittihad and Al-Ahli for the King’s Cup, Prince Faisal said work on the two projects would start as quickly as possible. He said architects were working on the new stadium’s design.

“We’ll give top priority to this new stadium project,” the prince told reporters. The stadium is part of the King Abdullah Sports City that will have a specialist hospital, indoor stadiums and youth hostels.

King Abdullah approved the project in February 2009 when then Jeddah Mayor Adel Fakeih said the new facility would boost sports and youth activities in the Kingdom.

Prince Nawaf said expansion work on Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal Stadium would start immediately to accommodate as many spectators as possible. “It will give priority to safety,” he added.

He thanked King Abdullah for his gesture to enhance sports facilities in the Kingdom. He underscored the remarkable progress and standard achieved by Saudi soccer. Prince Nawaf spoke about his department’s efforts to train and employ qualified Saudis in various important positions. “A group of Saudis have obtained master’s degrees in various sports-related specializations and met with King Abdullah. The Spanish troops are training Afghan army personnel to maintain peace, security and stability

Argentinean woman makes bricks from volcanic ash‏

An Argentinean woman uses volcanic material to make bricks to build homes for elderly women.
After weeks of enduring ashes brought on by Chile s Puyehue-Cordon Caulle volcano, one woman from the Argentinean side of the Andes is looking for the silver lining in the grey sediment that has smothered the area.
Maria Irma Mansilla, a resident of the poor El Mallin neighbourhood of Villa La Angostura, used the sediment and sand spewed by the volcano to create a brick prototype. She hopes she and her neighbours will be able to produce them on a large scale to build homes for the elderly and single mothers in need. Mansilla created three prototypes using a wooden mold and sent one to a government agency for approval to use as a building material.

He said the energy crisis could not be overcome overnight, as hydro projects would take a lot of time and finances for commissioning.

Iran accuses West of sponsoring terrorism

President of Iran, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad told the delegates who included the leaders of three countries Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan, The main Battlefields for US “ WAR ON TERRORISM”, that Washington, Israel and Europe were the worst culprits.

Ahmadinejad told in the “International Conference in Flobal Fight Against Terrosim” that “It is unfortunate that I have to announce that the individuals and groups responsible for these (terrorist) incidents are supported by certain European governments and some American politicians,”

By accusing the West, Tehran was turning the tables on accusations that Tehran supports militant groups such as Hamas and Hezbollah, which are considered terrorist organizations by Israel and its Western allies.

In a message read out at the conference, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said Washington had committed “terrorist behavior and financial and military support to organized terrorists” in the Middle East.

He said drone attacks in Afghanistan and Pakistan, the downing of an Iranian civil airliner by a US warship in 1988 and the assassination of two Iranian nuclear scientists – for which no one has claimed responsibility, were incidents from a “shameful and unforgettable list” of US “terrorism”.

Bin Laden was unhappy with the original name of his group– al Qaeda al Jihad, or The Base of Holy War – had been widely referred to only as al Qaeda, dropping the reference to religious war, the US official said.

“His concern was that the al Jihad part was dropped and it was short-handed to just al Qaeda,” the official said.

“From his perspective, that sort of separated the religious aspect of al Qaeda’s mission. And that allowed the West to portray it as an organization and not tied to a …religious movement,” he said.

Last month Bin Laden was killed un Us raid, comes across in the letter as a leader struggling to get the upper hand in the “information war” against the United States, the official said.

“What he was being frustrated by was that most people were seeing the fight against al Qaeda for what it really is – it’s an effort stop a violent organization not a war on religion,” he said.

“That bothered him.”

It was not clear who the letter was addressed to or whether or not it was delivered, but the document appeared to be written in the last couple of years “based on the context of it,” according to the official.
